There are just too many excellent things happening all at once here for me to get my head around. I’ve been working with Gilles Peterson, and Rob Galliano, and a whole load of my Brazilian Musical heroes, and my mate Ben , and we’ve made a feature length documentary, and it’s on in the flipping cinema.

Chassol – Indiamore

Screen Shot 2014-06-24 at 08.20.35

So we had our full length film about Gilles Peterson’s Sonzeira Project played at the Meltdown Festival last week, and just when I thought I was clever, on came Chassol to do his bit.

I have never received such a lesson in humility. He totally blew my mind. So many things I am interested in, musically, linguistically, filmically, culturally, all rolled into one perfect performance onstage, in front of a bespoke piece of film which both accompanied and was part of the music. It’s amazing. I went straight back home and bought it, and listening to it this morning before I go to work, it has lost none of its power.

Go and buy it at once. The video version. Or see him live if you can. I can’t recommend him any higher. It’s close to perfection.

Hamilton Fofão – Meu Samba

Last time I went to Rio my Mate Fofão sang a song for me and Benjamin Holman on the Selarón Steps in Lapa. He’s pretty much samba royalty. Look out for that name, it’ll go far. Big love to Jack Williams for the grade.

Criolo – Well worth a watch

Really enjoyed this concert. I never understand it when people moan about artists doing a show that’s just like the album. I’m always a bit annoyed when it’s not. Criolo nailed it at the Circo Voador.

Gilles Peterson – Brasil Bam Bam Bam

If you’d given me a piece of paper as a kid and told me to write down my ideal perfect most amazing job would be, I’d probably have said something to do with documentaries, and Gilles Peterson, and Galliano, and Brazilian music, and Rio. Luckily, I haven’t changed much since I was a kid, and last year, the planets aligned, and gave me exactly what I’ve always wanted.

For the last few months, my mate Ben Holman and I have been working on a documentary involving several of my favourite people in the world. Gilles Peterson, Rob Galliano, Ed Motta, Elza Soares, Marcos Valle, Wilson Das Neves, Seu momma flipping Jorge!!!!! It’s literally the most fun I’ve ever had. Mad props to BOSH and Mother for letting me do what I Love and making it all happen

There’s an hour long documentary on the way, but here’s a little teaser.

Now go and buy the album

First Sniff

The other day, some of the creatives came down an suggested we make a video to parody the First Kiss film. So we did.

Vice also did one. It’s brilliant, and amazingly hard to watch.
