Festinho + Saravah Soul + The Leisure Society + Music From the Penguin Cafe + The Fontanas = deep deep joy

The Festinho festival this weekend was proper japes. Great vibes, no stress, and the music was utterly excellent. On Saturday night I sat for an hour completely enthralled by the delightful Leisure Society. I guess I should have known about this band before, but I didn’t and I am very pleased to have been introduced to them like that, in a tent, a little drunk, surrounded by nice friends. If you ever get the chance to see them live, don’t pass it up. They were spellbinding. 

Sunday was topping, with Music from the Penguin Cafe, and the Fontanas (also playing our night ‘Cover Up’ at Ginglik this Friday), and Saravah Soul, who were mucho mucho much too much. Think early James Brown, mixed with early Jamiroquai, mixed with some samba rock, all shaken about and poured all over your face. The lead singer could be the single most charismatic frontman in the history of frontmen. Really. I was blown away. Apparently they play at Guanabara in Covent Garden quite a lot. I will definitely be there next time. Here’s a little taster:
